Buying A Refrigerator – A Critical Step
So, you are going to buy a refrigerator? Good for you. The new models are fairly amazing and will practically wash your car! That being said, there are still some basic steps you need to take when buying one. In this article, we take a look at a critical, but simple step.
There are a lot of factors you need to consider when buying a refrigerator. The options that come with the new units are so extensive that it can be easy to lose the forest for the trees. This can lead to a rather humorous, but embarrassing, problem – the refrigerator doesn’t fit in your kitchen correctly!
The first step in sizing up a new frig should be fairly obvious – size it up! Refrigerators come in sizes ranging from those small dorm refrigerators you had in college to monster truck versions used in commercial facilities. You need to measure your space front to back, top to bottom and side to side so that you know what size can be handled. Importantly, also give some thought as to how you are going to get it in and out of the house and whether any size modifications will be required.
Now we get to another critical step. I recently purchased a refrigerator for my mother. It was a single door model that had all the cool dohickies and was a perfect fit for her kitchen. The frig was delivered and rolled into the spot. A problem quickly became obvious. The door opened from the right to the left…right into a cabinet. I need a model that opened left to right instead! The delivery service hauled the frig off, but the delivery was no longer free given my gaff.
I’ve mentioned this story to a few friends. All have admitted they never really thought about which way the door opened when they bought theirs and must have just got lucky. You probably don’t want to leave it to chance!
